Lewis Appleby and Stephen Lyddon’s side have made an excellent start to their league campaign, taking 14 points from their opening six fixtures with four wins and two draws.

Last weekend’s Northern Cup tie against Wigan Armed Forces Athletic was postponed, meaning Newton now turn their attention back to the league as they look to pick up where they left off.

Saturday brings together two sides currently towards the top of the division, with Newton leading the table and FC St Helens U23 sitting third.

The Opposition: FC St Helens U23

FC St Helens have also enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Reserve League Two season.
They have collected 10 points from four matches, winning three and drawing one, while scoring 15 goals and conceding just six. Their record leaves them four points behind Newton having played two games fewer.

They opened their league campaign with a 3-1 victory over Middlewich Town Reserves and have remained among the early pace-setters since.

With both teams yet to taste defeat in the league, Saturday should provide another good test for Newton as they look to strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Squad News

Newton name a 16-man squad for Saturday’s home fixture, with Nathan Heyburn, Ricky Fahey and Nathan Wright coming into the group.

Fahey returns to the squad following an extended summer break, while Heyburn and Wright are also included for the visit of FC St Helens U23.

Newton squad:
Ollie Foy, Ethan Appleby, Joe Davidson, Bobby Dearden, Jordan Dunne, Ricky Fahey, Nathan Heyburn, Kaine Mulligan, Alex Peplow, Chris Percival, Kristian Rapson, Morgan Raymond, Joe Sigsworth, Ryan Whittle, Lewis Wilson, Nathan Wright.
