Newton-le-Willows Reserves turn their attention to County Cup action on Saturday when they travel to face Sankey Vale Reserves in the Liverpool County FA Saturday Intermediate Cup.
Kick-off is at 2:00pm at Warrington Sports Club, with Lewis Appleby and Stephen Lyddon’s side stepping away from their Reserve League 2 campaign for a weekend of knockout football.
Newton have made an encouraging start to the league season, with victories over Egerton FC Reserves, Moore United Development and Vulcan FC Development alongside a draw with Stretford Paddock Reserves during an unbeaten September.
Saturday now presents a different challenge, with progress in the County Cup decided over a single afternoon.
The Opposition: Sankey Vale Reserves
Sankey Vale Reserves compete in the Warrington & District Football League and will provide unfamiliar opposition for Newton.
They have already shown they are capable of getting results on the road this season, beginning their league campaign with a 2–1 victory away to Bruche Athletic.
Their most recent recorded league outing ended in a 2–0 defeat away to Halebank, and Saturday sees them return to cup competition on home soil.
With the two clubs operating in different league structures, the tie gives Newton an opportunity to test themselves against opposition they do not regularly encounter.
Squad News
Newton name a 16-man squad for Saturday’s trip, with the majority of last weekend’s group retained.
Nathan Anderson and Liam Beckett return to the squad, while Ryan Whittle is unavailable. Joe Sigsworth is also not included this weekend.
Morgan Raymond is included again as he continues his involvement with the Open Age setup.
Newton squad:
Ollie Foy, Ethan Appleby, Nathan Anderson, Liam Beckett, Callum Cotterill, Joe Davidson, Jordan Dunne, Stephen Lyddon, Kaine Mulligan, Brad Nelson, Alex Peplow, Chris Percival, Kristian Rapson, Morgan Raymond, Louie Rowlands, Lewis Wilson.
