Lewis Appleby and Stephen Lyddon’s side return to Reserve League Two action after progressing in the Liverpool County FA Saturday Intermediate Cup last weekend with a 4-1 victory away to Sankey Vale Reserves.
That result continued a strong start to the season for Newton, who remain unbeaten in the league and have built good momentum through the opening weeks of the campaign.
Saturday also brings another local derby, with the two sides meeting again only a few weeks after Newton travelled to face Vulcan in the reverse fixture.
The Opposition: Vulcan FC Development
There will be plenty of familiarity between the sides after their recent meeting, when Newton came away with a 5-1 victory.
Chris Percival scored twice that afternoon, with Louie Rowlands, Cal Cotterill and Ethan Appleby also on target as Newton took all three points.
With the return fixture coming around so quickly, both sides will have a clear idea of what to expect. Newton will be looking to produce another strong performance, but the local nature of the fixture gives Saturday’s game an added edge as Vulcan make the short journey across town.
Squad News
Newton name a 16-man squad for Saturday’s local derby, with four changes from the group selected for last weekend’s County Cup victory at Sankey Vale.
Ryan Whittle returns after being unavailable last weekend, while Mike Winer, Joe Sigsworth and Bobby Dearden also come into the squad.
Joe Davidson, Callum Cotterill, Brad Nelson and Morgan Raymond are the four players to drop out.
Newton squad:
Ollie Foy, Ethan Appleby, Nathan Anderson, Liam Beckett, Bobby Dearden, Jordan Dunne, Stephen Lyddon, Kaine Mulligan, Alex Peplow, Chris Percival, Kristian Rapson, Louie Rowlands, Joe Sigsworth, Mike Winer, Ryan Whittle, Lewis Wilson.
