Reserves Open League Campaign With Trip to Egerton

Newton-le-Willows Reserves get their 2026/27 Cheshire Football League Reserve League 2 campaign under way on Saturday with an away fixture against Egerton FC Reserves.

Kick-off is at 2:00pm at Egerton Youth Club in Knutsford, with Lewis Appleby and Stephen Lyddon taking charge of their first league fixture since being appointed joint player-managers during the summer.

The Reserves have already had a busy build-up to the new season, with three competitive Presidents Cup fixtures followed by further pre-season action.

Saturday now marks the start of the league programme, as Newton look to begin the new campaign positively after a summer which has seen new players introduced and younger members of the club given opportunities at senior level.

The Opposition: Egerton FC Reserves

Egerton FC Reserves will be familiar opposition, with both sides remaining in Reserve League 2 for the new season.

Egerton finished seventh in the division last year, two places above Newton, who ended the campaign in ninth.

There was little between the teams across their two meetings during 2025/26.

Newton came away from Egerton with a point following a 3–3 draw before the reverse fixture at Newton-le-Willows Sports Club ended in a narrow 3–2 victory for Egerton.

With both sides beginning the new season with a clean slate, Saturday provides an early opportunity to get points on the board and set the tone for the weeks ahead.

Squad News

Newton name a 16-man squad for Saturday’s Reserve League 2 opener away to Egerton FC Reserves.

Ollie Foy, Callum Cotterill, Liam Beckett, Nathan Anderson and Bobby Dearden are all unavailable for the trip.

Kristian Rapson moves into the Reserves squad for the fixture, while Ethan Appleby is included after scoring twice last weekend.
Nathan Wright is also named in the squad, alongside joint player-manager Stephen Lyddon.
