Newton-le-Willows continued their Cheshire Football League Presidents Cup campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory away at Crewe FC in their second game of the group stage.

Newton enjoyed the better of the contest for large periods, although a competitive first half meant chances were harder to come by as Crewe worked hard to keep the visitors at bay.

The breakthrough eventually came courtesy of Cole Howlett, who produced a brilliant piece of individual skill to create the opening before finding the finish to put Newton ahead.

Despite Newton controlling much of the play, the game remained tight going into the interval with just the one goal separating the sides.

After the break, Newton began to take an even greater grip on proceedings. Their fitness and intensity started to tell as the second half progressed, allowing them to create more space and increasingly threaten the Crewe goal.

Charlie Eden made that pressure count when he found the net to double Newton's advantage and give the visitors some breathing room.

With Newton continuing to create the better chances, a third followed from the penalty spot. Matty Smith stepped up and converted to round off the scoring and secure a convincing 3-0 win.

It was a strong all-round performance from Newton, who combined a disciplined first-half display with an increasingly dominant second-half showing to take the victory back from Crewe.

The result gives Newton another positive outing in the Presidents Cup as preparations for the new Cheshire Football League season continue to gather pace.
