Newton-le-Willows FC Ladies goalkeeper Tish Edwards has announced her retirement from football, bringing an end to a playing journey that has spanned more than 20 years.

Tish has been a valued member of the Ladies' Team, both on and off the pitch, and has played her part in the continued growth of women’s football at the club.

Announcing her decision, Tish said:

“That time has come for me to hang up my 11-a-side football boots and chase a new adventure.”

Her time with Newton has marked an important final chapter in her playing career, particularly after returning to the game following knee surgery.

Reflecting on that journey, Tish added:

“After my knee surgery, I thought I was down and out. However, joining Newton allowed me to come back and build my confidence and play the game I’ve played for over 20 years.”

As she steps away from playing, Tish leaves with the thanks and best wishes of everyone connected with Newton-le-Willows FC Ladies.

She continued:

“I just wanted to say thank you to you all for the last few years. I’ve made some good friends and some amazing memories along the way.”

Ladies Manager Ian Cross also thanked Tish for her contribution to the team.

“Tish has been a big part of the team since she come to us. We are all grateful for her contribution she has made through out her time at Newton. I wish all the best for her future adventures, she knows that she's always welcome back.”
