Newton-le-Willows FC have learned their potential opponents in the second round of the Northern Cup, with both senior men's teams featuring in the draw and the possibility of a local derby on the horizon.
The First Team, who received a bye in the opening round, will begin their Northern Cup campaign away from home against the winners of the first-round tie between Middlewich Town and Leigh.
Ben Crowe and Anthony Plant's side will be looking to make progress in another cup competition as they continue their first season in Cheshire League One following last season's promotion.
The Reserves, meanwhile, have been handed the prospect of an intriguing local derby against neighbours Vulcan FC Reserves, should they overcome Wigan Armed Forces Athletic in their outstanding first-round fixture.
Stephen Lyddon and Lewis Appleby's side were due to face Wigan Armed Forces Athletic last weekend, but the fixture was postponed, leaving their place in the second round still to be decided.
Victory would set up a home tie against Vulcan FC Reserves, adding another chapter to the local rivalry between the two clubs.
With both Newton sides competing in this season's Northern Cup, there is also the intriguing possibility of an all-Newton encounter in a later round, should both teams continue to progress and be drawn against one another.
Dates and further fixture details will be confirmed in due course.
