Daniel Farrell and Ant Welding Step Down from First Team Management Roles

Newton-le-Willows FC can confirm that Daniel Farrell and Ant Welding have stepped down from their roles as First Team Manager and Assistant Manager following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

Dan and Ant leave the management team having overseen one of the most successful periods in the club's recent history, culminating in the Cheshire Football League Two title and promotion during the 2025/26 campaign.

Their dedication, commitment and leadership have helped build a strong culture within the First Team and leave a platform for future success. We are delighted that both Dan and Ant will remain involved with Newton-le-Willows FC in support roles moving forward.

In a statement, Dan said:

"Myself and Ant have made the decision to step down from First Team management duties.

It's been an unbelievably difficult decision and one that hasn't been made lightly. It is something we have been debating for several weeks/months, but we feel as though now it is the right time to step aside for a variety of reasons.

I could go on and on about how much this club, but more specifically the boys, mean to the pair of us – but I just don't think I could do it justice with words. They are a special, special group who we are so proud of and absolutely wouldn't change for the world.

Thanks for everything – it has been an absolute pleasure."

Chairman, Andrew Tither said:

"As Chairman, I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to both Dan and Ant for everything they have given to Newton-le-Willows FC.

From where they started to where they have led us to is absolutely night and day. they have put us on a real upward trajectory and the strongest foundation to build on.

Their commitment, passion, and hard work over the past few seasons have been exceptional. Not only have they delivered success on the pitch, culminating in a league title and promotion this season, but they have also helped create a positive culture and strong sense of togetherness throughout the club.

What has impressed me most is the way they have represented Newton-le-Willows FC. they have led with integrity, professionalism, and a genuine care for the players and the wider club.

Whilst we will miss them in the dugout, we fully respect their decision and are delighted that they will continue to be involved with the club behind the scenes. Their knowledge, experience, and commitment to Newton-le-Willows FC remain invaluable.

On behalf of everyone associated with the club, I would like to thank Dan and Ant for their outstanding contribution and wish them every success in the next chapter of their journey with Newton-le-Willows FC, and ensuring that we have an exciting succession plan to carry on the good work."

Following Dan and Ant's decision to step down, the club has begun planning for the next chapter of the Men's First Team.

Further details regarding the club's First Team management structure will be announced in the coming days.

Everyone at Newton-le-Willows FC would once again like to thank Dan and Ant for their outstanding contribution to the club and wish them every success in their continuing roles within the Newton-le-Willows FC family.
